These include a variety of activities. Cooking is taught by reknowned
restaurant owner, caterer (to the movie industry amongst others), and instructor,
Cathi DiCoco, along with her partner, Rebecca Lyons. Campers enjoy learning (and eating) in Cathi's professional
kitchen, which is adjacent to her restaurant, Cafe DiCocoa. Animal Care, held
in the barn at Gould Academy, is taught by two local Bethel residents, who share
diverse experience with animals. Kate Slattery teaches about basic care and
grooming of the barn animals including chickens, sheep, goats, and turkeys. Maureen
Libby, an Alpaca farmer, brings several of her animals to Gould, teaching campers
all about these irresistably adorable animals.
Campers in our hands-on science classes explore a variety of exciting topics
including plants and growing, weather and air pressure, flight, boat building and
forces in motion.
In Bridge Building , campers learn the basics of what makes a bridge hold such amazing
strength at two relatively small points. They use this knowledge to design and construct
a miniature bridge of their own using PVC pipe and duct tape. Chess, a favorite
pastime in the boys' lounge, is taught by counselors who are experienced at competing
and teaching, and are constantly fascinating campers
with all the right moves!
