I for one was very inspired by Steve Jobs’ 2005 Stanford commencement address that has been posted all over the Internet this past week upon his passing away. Have you discussed these inspiring words with your child or teen? What a great opportunity for all of us to have this meaningful conversation around our kitchen tables. And, it turns out his words even apply to camp!
We all know that character counts! I was inspired by reading about an effort by some leading educators to develop a character education and measurement system. It was no surprise that the key strengths are all qualities and skills we focus on at camp!
Now that we’re settling in back at home in Florida, we’re looking back on the summer and analyzing what worked best, and what might need improvement. We feel we had one of our best summers ever, and evidently our camper families and staff agree. We’re receiving wonderful feedback, and I wanted to share these with you.
Now that camp is over, we’re getting heartfelt feedback from campers and parents. After all the hard work, this is the time we get to say “that’s what it’s all about!” We’re so happy to be able to provide a positive summer experience for kids and teens. Session 1 is drawing to a close at Maine Arts Camp, and so many wonderful things have been transpiring: new friendships, courage to try new things, beautiful artwork, talented and fun performances, and so much more. Please join me as I give you a glimpse of what’s been happening here and what your children have been up to!
As you pack for summer camp with your child, you have the opportunity to set the tone for your child’s camp experience. When children return from camp, parents want to know all about their experience, but it can be hard to get them to share their thoughts and feelings. I’ve solicited some expert advice to get great questions and tips for starting meaningful conversations with your kids after camp. As I am completely immersed in thoughts of camp, I find myself wondering what new adventures lie ahead for us this summer. Communicating with our staff on a more regular basis, I am feeling the excitement growing as we prepare to join each other at our summer “home.” While campers are busy shopping and packing, staff are doing and feeling many of the same things.
