Maine Arts Camp’s Specialty Week

Years in the making, and it's finally here!

Dates: Saturday, July 30 to Saturday, August 6, 2011
Price: $1250.

Specialty Week is an exciting offering available to campers who attend either of our 2-week sessions, or who stay for the full 4-week session. It is an add-on week, so campers are already comfortable in the camp setting and ready for something new, challenging and focused.

Launched in summer 2010, Specialty Week allows older campers (11-15 year olds, plus 16-year-olds who are returning campers) to focus on two activities, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Each activity runs for 2 1/2 hours. With 15 hours in each activity, campers are able to increase their skill level in areas of interest and also try some new activities not offered during our regular 2-week camp sessions.

Unlike our 2-week sessions, which can take up to about 125 campers, we limit Specialty Week to 60-70 campers. Along with our talented and experienced staff members that stay for Specialty Week, we also bring in a few professionals who are only available during that week. Please see the "Meet our Staff" page on our website for bios on all our staff.

If your child is serious about any one of the activities we're offering during Specialty Week, this is the perfect opportunity to let him/her really blossom in that area. It is possible to sign up for Specialty Week after you've enrolled in a 2 or 4-week session if there's still room.

Each summer brings new exciting activities to our 2-week sessions, as well as to Specialty Week. After we finish hiring our summer staff, we post the activity options for the summer, usually in late winter. During Specialty Week, we will have many options in the visual arts, as well as in dance, cooking, photography, videography, and possibly theatre and kayaking/canoeing.

Camper Testimonials

"I just wanted to say that I thought Specialty week was AMAZING! It was so much fun! The classes were small, and the outcome of each class was just incredible. Also, I really enjoyed the little amount of campers and counselors there were. It allowed me to get even closer to people that I couldn't during the regular sessions. The smaller amount of people made the camp seem even more like a family. Specialty week was definitely a great way to end the camp season, and since I have aged out of camp now, a great way to end my time at camp. I will miss Maine Arts Camp a lot."
Zoe W., Lexington, MA

"I really enjoyed Specialty Week this year - it was even better than I expected! I loved how it was smaller than the regular sessions and the classes were also much smaller. We had a lot of help from our teacher and also had a lot of time. Definitely keep Plein Air Painting!"
Sofia E., Cambridge, MA
