|
Laura is from Pleasant Valley, NY, a scenic town in the Hudson Valley about 75 miles north of NY City. Her interest in art began at an early age, and over the years she has both thrived and evolved from art's creative process. Growing up she played several sports, including high school and travel softball, and basketball, and refereed for her town's recreation league. She is currently a senior at Alfred University in the School of Art & Design located in Alfred, NY. Presently pursuing a K-12 certificate in visual arts, Laura will be receiving her BFA with a concentration in Art Education in May 2010. Aside from producing an array of artwork in several different mediums, Laura has enjoyed working with children in art and literacy in the community, as art related events on the college campus. Laura is involved in AIGA student chapter at her university and particularly interested in alterative print and bookmaking. She was selected to attend the Typecon 2009 in ATL, GA convention, and will be attending Philadelfika March 2010 in PA. Laura believes the chance to work at Maine Arts Camp this summer will provide her with everything that she loves: art, education, and the opportunity to work with children on a one on one basis. She feels that being immersed in an environment with children, artists, and future art educators will give her with the opportunity to share her skills and knowledge through hands on experience resulting in an enriching and positive experience for all involved.
