Jilian Jancuska, a native of Wilmington, Delaware, is currently pursuing a master's degree in English Education: Preparation 7-12 at Syracuse University and is extremely excited to spend the summer before her final student teaching semester at Maine Arts Camp. In 2007, she graduated as the class marshal from Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications and hopes to utilize and build upon her television, radio, film and drama studies in becoming a passionate and contemporary English high school teacher. During her undergraduate career, Jilian performed with, choreographed for, and directed DanceWorks, Syracuse University's largest student run dance troupe with over 100 performers. She simultaneously taught weekly hip-hop and ballet classes for Syracuse University Recreation Services and choreographed a full length musical, Follies for a student run theater group called First Year Players.
Jilian took a windy route back to teaching, always aware of the destination. She spent a year at Lifetime Networks in New York City, working with the Distribution Marketing Team to support Lifetime's commitment to women's entertainment and well-being. Jilian took advantage of New York City's rich arts and wellness communities and continued to study hip-hop and yoga after work each day at Broadway Dance Center and Reflections Yoga. She then shifted focus away from the entertainment industry and stamped her passport for the first time in Guatemala where she spent a month earning a Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Certification. She now teaches Vinyasa and Power yoga at Syracuse University. Jilian is thrilled to join the Maine Arts Camp community for the first time this summer!
