Shana Bloomstein was born and raised in Freedom, Maine. She discovered her love for dance at Forrest Friends Nursery school with Lisa Newcomb as her first teacher. Shana continued her dancing in Maine with Arthur Hall, Sara Yarbourough, Richard Gonzales, Keith Robinson, and as a member of Stella Dance Theatre as a performer and choreographer. She studied dance/education at Hampshire College and moved on to New York City to perform as an original member of Nia Love's modern dance company, Blacksmith's Daughter for 4 years. Shana served as a rehearsal director and taught company classes at Broadway dance center in addition to performing. Shana studied a multitude of dance idioms in NYC and more intensively, Sabar, both in NYC and in Senegal, West Africa. Her experience and extensive international travel contribute to her unique style of dance; and her knowledge as a Yoga instructor, Massage therapist and Physical Therapist Assistant provide important tools to provide a safe environment in which to learn. Since moving back to Maine, she has taught throughout the state and to all levels and ages. Shana is a mother of two beautiful children, a full-time therapist and the producer of Women's Works, an annual collaboration of female choreographers and performers. Shana is currently teaching dance at Belfast Dance Studio and Unity College.
